Amazon-Free: A Two Year Anniversary

Relax in southern comfort on the east bank of the Mississippi. You're just around the corner from Beale Street and Sun Records. Watch the ducks, throw back a few and tell us what's on your mind.

Thats why I shared it... no doubt from cookies and google search terms...

When you said they were obsolete I searched them and found where TI was still making them and at least for the 3914 said they were OK for new designs.

for some irony, over on another website where I am a mod, after a day of deleting multiple spammers, pimping viagra or counterfeit movies, the website push advertising asks me if I want to date Russian women? Since I was looking at their spam posts to confirm their intent before deleting their accounts, the advertising AI thinks I was actually interested in the spam.

I suspect my cookies are full of stuff that I searched without intending to buy,,, but I don't mind them wasting their paid click bullets on me.

I also perceive some situational opportunity pricing around the internets... for example I have been looking for some high gluten flour (good for making pizza), the popular cheap brand appears to be out of stock (white Lily), but of course it still show up for sale at 4x or 5x typical prices...

When It's back in surplus the prices will return to normal.

PS: I DVR through 99% of commercials, but it appears even they are getting more targeted by location and to me (old man). One step closer to minority report sci-fi.

See if your store stocks King Arthur bread flour.
Bob's Red Mill?

Our local mainline (depop) food store stocks King Arthur general-purpose and bread flours and they are much better than Gold Medal which tastes like gypsum dust in comparison.

Thanks, the king arthur uses high protein spring wheat and seems reasonable... my store doesn't stock it but I can order it (like I had to for the white lily flour).

The high protein flour really makes a difference for pizza crust... I didn't find them in my search for high gluten flour, also got pages of gluten-free flour...

Don't you have 'strong white' in USA, which is bread flour over here? Afficionados say that for Pizza you need to use '00' italian flour but I get good results from strong white.

Oddly UK can't grow high gluten flour and we have to import all of ours from abroad.

This drives me mad. They heavily do it on air flight prices.
Years ago I was used to book from an internet travel agency, until I noticed that if I was not bying right away, prices were jacked up, the next times looking for the same flights.
Now, I forgot about internet, simply go at a travel agency, where they give a better service, they have as much access to all flights, do optimize the travel and cost, they can lock reservations, and no bull of jacked up prices.
I rather pay 10 bucks than be tricked on internet.

I once had a situation where I booked and payed for a hotel room from one of those sites. When I got to the hotel there was no record of the reservation. I had to pay again. I could tell it was going to be a giant PITA to get a refund for the first time I payed. I eventually gave up. I’ve never again booked through any of the sites. For hotels and airlines I call direct

Expect more opportunity pricing as the WWW tracks us more.
----
I have seen the opposite effect where I didn't buy the first time I checked a certain website, and when I check again later, the price was magically a bunch lower. Gaming the gamers. of course doesn't always work and in some cases they are getting smarter (better with big data).

@Bill what they sell here as general purpose flour is not automatically the high protein/high gluten spring wheat.

Flour labelled for bread machines is generally OK, but I never used or even saw one of those bread machines in person or at one of my neighbors, so never see bread machine flour at my local store (I live in the country where everybody buys self rising flour for making biscuits..).

PS: I do not miss all the business travel I used to do for Peavey... they were pretty tight so always purchased tickets way in advance with huge cost penalties for changing flight times later. I once pulled an all nighter drinking in Tijuana (with Peavey rep and dealer) then had to make a 8AM flight out of LAX the next morning... My rep who was taking care of me (cough) was wasted so I ended up driving us up the 405 before dawn using the lane reflectors like braille to stay in my lane...

"Strong" flour is not a commonly used descriptor for flour here (in my experience). That said searching for high gluten reveals pages of gluten free flour (search engines try to steer you to what everybody else is looking for).

All purpose claims to be all things to all people, so crap for all applications.

Thanks to Wayne's advice I have a life time supply on order. Shipping cost was a same for 3 sacks as one, so I'm set. Ironically 3 are cheaper than one sack of the scarcity marked up brand.

I get through over 100lbs of strong white each year. I'm trying to imagine a lifetime supply...
