Now I've Left DIYAudio

Relax in southern comfort on the east bank of the Mississippi. You're just around the corner from Beale Street and Sun Records. Watch the ducks, throw back a few and tell us what's on your mind.

There is a certain type of personality that likes to write long posts which on first blush look like they contain some useful information. Upon closer inspection they come close but always stop short of actually helping anyone.

You are right. I don't see any hint of intention of helping anyone in his posts, but rather a way to show off his thoughts of self-grandeur. However, what I do see are long diatribes full of condescension towards others. And it would seem that the long posts are being used with the intention of bullying and overwhelming the reader into submission.

He appears to think of himself as an authority on everything related to audio, and perhaps he believes that by typing these posts he is doing what Pantera had in mind when they coined the phrase "Vulgar Display of Power" for their album. But this power seems to lie only in his imagination, since, as far as I am aware, he still has to provide any hard evidence of what he has done to achieve such status, i.e., to put his money where his mouth is, otherwise he is just another keyboard warrior. Being an ex audio tech does not qualify in my book.

I wouldn't leave DIYAudio because of him, though. When dealing with such individuals it is best to keep in mind the phrase "do not feed the troll". Although I am aware that Wayne has a very low threshold for BS.

I knew Pantera when Darrell and Vinnie were in high school and would come into their Dad's studio in Pantego, Texas to rehearse and record. Their Dad, Jerry Abbott, was a very smart businessman who traded studio time to his kids for points. I did maintenance for Jerry at Pantego Sound and would be there in the afternoons when they came in. They also did a project at Dallas Sound Lab where I also did maintenance. Jerry outlived his children which is hard for a parent. Those points however have made him some good mailbox money.

The problem is there are many more like him on DIYAudio, GroupDIY et al.
I sense a growing overall toxicity of these individuals.
All it takes is one to poison the well for the entire town.

At some point any contribution one makes just makes them subject to attack by trolling dicks.
I think its just better to hang out here for awhile...

There’s plenty of people who are just somewhat chemically imbalanced, wrong meds, whatever, who can’t keep a lid on it in the moment, and don’t have anything else to occupy their time.

The guy I mentioned was at the Klipsch forum. He’s convinced audio engineers and mastering folk are out to ruin music. His ‘fix’ is to eq released music to a white noise profile, fill in the bits we’ve deviously removed. Think about that for a half sec, with any understanding of the way musical scales work. Bonkers, and he’ll bury anyone in endless words. Pages and pages of his rants.
