Ruairi's place destroyed by fire

Relax in southern comfort on the east bank of the Mississippi. You're just around the corner from Beale Street and Sun Records. Watch the ducks, throw back a few and tell us what's on your mind.

Thanks for posting this and the Gofundme link.
I've known Ruairi online since about 2007.

What happened in LA really sucks and could have been preventable and unfortunately we'll be hearing more stories like this one.
Glad his family - and hopefully his animals if he had some - are OK.

Any word from Pucho?

Pucho seems to be safe and sound where he is ,but not far away from places that were devastated .

I guessed you'd know Ruairi alright ,
I just hope he's properly covered by insurance to be able to get back on his feet again .

State Farm and other insurers cancelled thousands of policies in that area last summer.
He may very well be uninsured now.

Rubs me the wrong way that these companies try to save money or hedge their bets but will blow however much money on celebrity endorsements.
Like we've never heard of State Farm.... Who hasn't heard of backasswards..

This fire will trigger a banking and insurance carrier collapse.

Those no longer insured still owe on their mortgages and most will default.
The dominoes will then begin to fall.

State Farm thought they were going to limit their exposure but the damage is so widespread that the properties they still insure will bankrupt them.

Tubetec, not to sound mean but I recommend you stop wasting your time on GDIY. I see no point on going there as a non-registered member just to keep looking from the outside in. It's kind of like the guy who keeps visiting his ex-girlfriend's Facebook page after she unfriended him just to keep tabs on what she's been up to.

Ruairi is a fellow countryman of mine and we made friends over the years ,
The least I could do is pass on the message that he had this misfortune happen.

Let me make this crystal clear ,
Im excluded from the forum ,
Some there might not have liked my opinion , but I fell out with very few ,
In the end I tried to stand up against primarily what the site ownership was doing in terms of censorship ,
and thats the reason Im not there now.

Agreed, the place is very much a watered down version of itself with almost 30,000 members ,
many regular and good spirited contributors either dont come there anymore or only ocasionally drop by .
The Brewery as a source of opinions on the ground ,of subjects other than electronics was useful to me ,
of course now people find themselves having to apologise for even posting about Ruairi's situation ,
in case all the little snowflakes melt .

It is a shame that even they have to apologize about those comments.

I am not judging you, I just get the impression that you are constantly lurking over the forum; to each his own, I guess, and you are free to do whatever you like.

I do miss the forum, and I also miss some of the guys over there. Although being the internet what it is, I would be lying if I told you that I created strong bonds with many of them. I no longer care about what goes on there nor I waste any more of my time trying to figure out if cyrano said this, whether Angie did that, what goes on on the Brewery, or whether their servers are no longer indexed by Google or the Wayback Machine. That forum is long gone, all that remains from what it used to be is the same web address. I predict that even the mods will leave at some point in the not-so-distant future. Even JR, whom I appreciate, should eventually get tired of the idea that Ethan is still in charge.
