It seems to me there are lots of places digital brains might be well applied that made not so much sense not that long ago. Some places nothing more than a change in the availability of suitable analog parts.

Maybe one can find them all in online archives: Audio Mythology column. Or someone should compile them into an archive. Would be an interesting look back, though JR might groan a lot.

I think the essence of analog op-amp based servos are that they make little capacitors act like big ones.

exactly... op amp gain is used to make small (linear) caps look like big linear caps...
