This is a quick reference chart of LED forward voltage versus color for those wanting to use LEDs as voltage references.

Red, yellow and green are the colors I've seen used.

I've used red before, for a drop used to generate a bias voltage in a later BBD delay kit. It was a little odd to have an LED lit inside the closed unit. The other LED colors were too expensive when I considered this kind of stuff (the red was an relative extravagance) ...

I didn't know that many LED colors exist.

[edit when I looked for cost effective UVc LEDs (200-280 nm) I didn't have much luck (i did find a UVc CFL lamp). /edit]
