Re: Visualizing the Birt Line Receiver As A Fully Differential Amplifier

They're functionally very similar.
I think the advantage of the Birt using op amps is that it is lower cost and not single-sourced.
For DIY there is also the through-hole advantage.
The overall CMRR performance of both is limited by the resistors.

Re: MTC-IGFO Mastering Transfer Console Input Gain Filter Output Construction Information

Thank you for doing that.
On later projects I started using Yageo or KOA from Mouser but haven't gone back to update the old discontinued Xicon numbers.
Do you have a link to the updated BOM?

Visualizing the Birt Line Receiver As A Fully Differential Amplifier

Visualizing the Birt Line Receiver As A Fully Differential Amp The Birt Line Receiver is a very useful circuit but the topology is confusing particularly when the polarity inverting stage is drawn backwards. When drawn this way the Birt looks like M.C. Escher's "Drawing Hands." By rearran...

Re: The Studer "90° Filter" Stereo to Mono Summer/Recorrelator

Hi Wayne, did you ever make up a PCB for this filter? Kind regards Mike Thanks for asking. I've been waiting for someone to ask. I'll bump it up the list - I want a 90 degree filter and I get an empty Protoboard back by making a board. Will try to fit it in a small format board. Curious: Will you n...

Re: Questions about THAT1512 in mic pre

The 22KΩ resistor to ground raises the common mode impedance of the input which can improve LF common mode rejection by reducing the matching requirements of the input capacitors. You can relax the value of Cg considerably owing to both the HP filters you intend to use and also by reducing the maxim...

Re: Questions about THAT1512 in mic pre

Another thing worth pointing out is that your gain pot will have a minimum "hop-off" resistance in the wiper. On a new pot this is usually 2-3Ω. At maximum gain the control may also be a bit twichy. Since you're wanting to use a 1512 with a pot for Rg you might be better off putting some g...
