Texas Instruments 1954 Annual Report Cover

From sand to silicon...

I found this very cool piece of art in my Grandmother's trunk.
My Aunt and Uncle were both early TI employees and this was in the April 1955 "texins" employee magazine they sent to her.
It reminds me of Salvador Dali.

Yes the lighting and shadows do recall Dali, but the parts need to also hang over the edge and bend at right angles.

Probably some junior art dept. guy having fun.

Yeah, WOW. Very Dali but more "in the style of" than plagiarism. That must have cost some money and had an executive patron. Nowdays they'd just buy a Koons.

It's really very much like a lot of the sci-fi art of the time. I approve.

So tell us about the size and success of the company for that year....

Texas Instruments' 1954 Consolidated Sales were $24,387,334.
J. Erik Jonsson, who would later became Dallas' Mayor, was TI's CEO.

Another "first" was won with the high volume production of a high frequency germanium transistor for an all-transistor portable radio, compact enough for pocket use.
