SSL Phase Meter Schematic

Post by mediatechnology »

Here's the SSL Phase Meter Schematic using the Motorola MC14583 dual Schmidt trigger. There's an error on the 14583 pinout: Two pin 4's are shown. The input on the left is really pin 9, not pin 4.

Note: A corrected image appears in a later post.

I was contacted with another error in the SSL Phase Meter Schematic.

R22 and R24 each connect to pin 9 of T5 and T6. I caught the error on T5 but missed the T6 one. Both are the Ain inputs.

Piero from Italy e-mailed me and noticed that R29 is marked both 10k and 47K. IIRC it should be 47k.

I meant to ask if anybody finds this useful?

I guess back in the old vinyl days there were issues with too much stereo on bass...

I could code stuff like this into my meter PIC as a free add in...

Thanx.

My only version of the meter currently in production is sold into live sound and fixed installations, so I'll have to ask the marketing guys if there is anybody asking for phase meters.

Strikes me as more a recording thing, than live SR. I probably need to make a recording version (In my spare time).

Since I was never a practicing engineer my use of the "phase meter" was for setting 2 track azimuth. I almost never used it for multi track azimuth preferring the mono sum method. I'm glad I don't have to deal with tape any more. :|

I could see how the SSL type which indicates correlation could be useful for stereo mics and mix down. I don't see much use for it in live though except for broadcast where it would be a definite must-have.

Thanx.. I'll have to ask if my friends get much broadcast business... I know the Dorrough  pk/VU meters were very popular with broadcasters.

JR,
Not too much, but we're trying to get more...
Everyone loves your simultaneous Pk/VU display :D , but no one has mentioned their desire for a phase meter to me.

Thanks,, Wish I could have made the show.. but I'm actually getting some work done.

I was nervous how PK/VU would be received by your conservative, luddite, "no digital for me" customers  Have any asked to defeat it or can we remove that switch?

Later..
