RIP Vinnie Paul Abbott

Relax in southern comfort on the east bank of the Mississippi. You're just around the corner from Beale Street and Sun Records. Watch the ducks, throw back a few and tell us what's on your mind.

RIP Vinnie Paul Abbott

Post by mediatechnology »

Drummer Vinnie Paul, co-founder of metal band Pantera, has died. Currently a member of Hellyeah, Paul was 54.

I watched Vinnie and his brother Darrell as teenage kids grow up in their dad's studio Pantego Sound.
They would come "home" from school to the studio to record just about every day the studio was available.
I feel bad for their father Jerry who has now outlived his two sons.

Both brothers gone.

I think Darrel was still in high school when I met them. Vinnie was either a senior or had just graduated IIRC.
I also worked with them again at Dallas Sound Lab.

When I was at Recording Workshop in 1990 someone put a foldout poster of Pantera from a guitar mag on the dorm fridge, and it collected graffiti over the course of the session. Nice mock horror pose, I can't find the image.
