Hybrid race cars

I thought it was interesting that there were two competitive hybrid race car teams at the recent leMans, Also interesting the winner (Audi) used flywheels to store the recovered energy, and Toyota, used capacitors... neither used batteries... go figure.

Re: musician w electronics project -planning stage

I have no idea of the complete history,, only that I knew one guy who made a commercial product "bass to midi" controller that worked, and also was playable as a normal bass guitar. ===== Back in the '70s I had a roommate who made a guitar to synth interface, and he wrested with many of th...

Re: musician w electronics project -planning stage

Too much to respond to point by point. The esitar approach is workable. A friend of mine made a midi controller that was essentially a bass guitar with similar resistor divider fret board. (This was a commercial product manufactured by Peavey quite some time ago -19'90s). While you could use the res...

Re: A Direct-Coupled Input-Capacitorless Active Mic Preamp

If the phantom caps are sized appropriately for for good Z wrt mic source impedance is the 1/F noise audibly problematic or more of a measurement artifact? IIRC the old mackie preamps often undersized the gain cap so LF noise floor appeared better than it was, because max gain actually dropped off a...

Re: A Direct-Coupled Input-Capacitorless Active Mic Preamp

I am getting a bad feeling about a few things, but to be fair I didn't pay to read the paper. Technically the phantom blocking caps DO need to be low impedance wrt 200 ohms, but they DO NOT need to drive 2k input termination. There is no reason why circa 2k termination cannot be on the same side of ...

dumb ads

I was complaining in the lighting thread about a dumb car ad, but I saw another one that just makes me go wha... They are trying to pimp those water bottles with filters built in, but in the commercial there is a housewife offering water to an eskimo, who was drinking from the ocean!!! He smile beca...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra

Well I swapped out the ballast and it appears to run warm to the touch just like the old magnetic LF ballast. To my disappointment closer inspection reveals that these are old school T12s so according to that link, 40-50% available efficiency increase with newer t5-t8 but i don't know if that analys...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra

I have screwed the vanity fixture to the ceiling (just barely through sheet rock, but it is relatively light weight) and when off it looks a lot cleaner than the huge fluorescent fixture did, with it's circus tightrope support cable. The light output while completely competent, makes harder shadows,...
