Let's see if this works....
Screen shot of a project I began (and halted when I packed up to move to Kansas) with Kicad about a year ago. It's 99% done (top layer "ground pour" not done it appears).

Re: Simple pcb design program
It wanted to default to the Applications(x86) directory, but I overrode that choice and installed in c:\kicad. Edit...I meant Programs (x86). I originally installed Kicad on my older machine running XP and had no problems letting the installer use the default directory. But, with this "newer&qu...

Re: antennas for over-the air DTV
Wow...information overload at that AVS site! <g>
The many mentions of the TVfool website did give me some additional insights based upon my location.
Thanks for the suggestion, Skater.

antennas for over-the air DTV
When I lived in Okla. City, I was paying $467,479,379 <g> per month for Cox Cable television and internet. Once I moved to Kansas, all I opted for was Cox internet. I went for most all of 2014 WITHOUT ANY TELEVISION <g> in my new home here in Kansas. But, I did miss local news/weather...and some oth...

Re: Simple pcb design program
I just figured out how to get KiCAD to run under Win7 (do NOT let it install in the default "applications" directory). Sheesh...I miss XP.

Re: Design programs
I've discovered more than a few things refuse to load/run under 64-bit Win 7, so I'm nursing along my 15 year old Compaq tower running win98SE.
As for a design app, KiCad is where I've been spending some time. Open source, lotsa support.

Re: LED retrofitting in audio gear
The #47 replacement is a good find. . One of those JKL "47" bulbs hitched a ride in my recent Mouser order. Worked without problems in a Fender Deluxe and a Pultec DIY clone. Nitpicks. There isn't a long glass envelope to hold when installing/removing in a "front panel loading" ...

Re: LED retrofitting in audio gear
While recently working in Omaha restoring "serial #2" (of 2! lol) of the desk I designed back in 1977: http://brianroth.com/pix/mb77-june2014/ ** ...I tried various schemes to replace the incandescents in the VU meters with LEDs and it was "a Fool's Quest". The Dixson VU meters (...

LED retrofitting in audio gear
I was going to write a longer post, but it's getting late <g>. Long story short, in the past 2-3 months, I've had to deal with multiple pieces of old gear with various burnt out incandescent bulbs. Illuminated switches, indicators on panels, VU bulbs, backlighting for console faders (!), you name it...
