Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information

Planning phase starting for 2 phono stages I am building. One for myself which will be uneccessarily complex cos I can and one for a friend which is simpler and the one I'm working out now. It'll have balanced MM and Balanced MC inputs and then the option of using analog RIAA using the monitor switc...

Re: too cheap to fix?

It had been a dry few weeks and enough to cause this. I've seen worse. I worked in Newbury when we had some biblical rain and my client's HQ building was cut off. Then the water filled up the space between the platforms at the railway station. In UK we moan about the weather a lot mainly because we ...

Re: too cheap to fix?

I think the rain moved to England. I'm in Chianti this week, but apparantly some parts of uk had 100mm (4") in under 24 hours. Normal rainfall for whole month is under 80mm. Chaos has ensued. Here its high 80s and dry :)

Re: too cheap to fix?

pigskin goatskin, deerskin and sheepskin. I like goat as it’s very soft. It’s good for tactile feedback but not super durable. Deerskin seems to be the most durable. Pigskin works best in wet weather. Moose skin is exceeding durable, but apparantly a biatch to tan. I have a mooseskin wallet (from F...

Re: somebody stop me

Particularly galling for me because I have a miniDSP for the L/R channels so would prefer those to be digital. I guess I could set my player to do L/R out of the SPDIF output and slurp the rest off the HDMI using one of these https://www.minidsp.com/products/ht-series/nanoavr-hda . I do have an offe...

Re: somebody stop me

As the old joke goes. You know you are an Engineer when you try to fix a $5 radio! The surround issue, as I have said before is one that is causeing me concerns and I'll probably end up buying a marantz decoder as it has L/R and sub analog outputs which I need. Prepros that have all the features I w...

Re: Loss of small market radio

Whilst personally not a listener to local radio I am saddened by these stories. As a cycle commuter for most of my working life I haven't listened to the radio on the way into work and back I am painfully aware that the parish magazine is now the only source of local information and that's only once...

Re: Something to ponder about IoT

We have meals on wheels too. A vital community service IMO Cellular is the right bearer, but there isn't a cellular alexa so you need custom stuff (which you always would need). To go to the other extreme https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-48202236 this woman has lived totally off grid h...
