Re: A Simple 10W Direct-Coupled Class-A Power Amplifier

You get cleaner results that frequently lack the original character that was chased in the first place.
Doug how would you describe the character that's lost?

Re: Distortion and source impedance in JFET-input op amps

Maybe that's the reason for R8 here with a bipolar input NJM4580: https://www.ka-electronics.com/images/jpg/Rane_HC6_Headphone_Amp_Output.jpg We pondered R8's raison d'etre here: http://www.proaudiodesignforum.com/forum/php/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=497&hilit=rane&start=22 I also went back and...

Re: Distortion and source impedance in JFET-input op amps

I found another place where Jung discusses source impedance balancing for voltage followers to reduce THD in the ADI 2002 Analog Seminar series. https://proaudiodesignforum.com/images/jpg/Jung_Source_Impedance_Balance.JPG Jung, Balancing source impedance in voltage followers to reduce THD. Re: A Simple 10W Direct-Coupled Class-A Power Amplifier

I wanted to point out that one difference I experienced in my first test vs. the "slightly lowered VA power supply" observations was that the "clipping" was not due to the output hitting the rails but simply (gracefully?) running out of current due to being severely under-biased ...

Re: Distortion and source impedance in JFET-input op amps

I've seen the technique (figure 25) in the AD797 (bipolar input) datasheet with an added Rs of 100R.

I'm not sure where but Jung writes about this as well.

Re: Distortion and source impedance in JFET-input op amps

Hey Craig thank you for joining us!

I've seen that in a number of Analog Devices datasheets (both BIFET and bipolar) and have tried it myself with OPA2604s and AD823s.
It does seem to work.

Re: A Simple 10W Direct-Coupled Class-A Power Amplifier

John - What do you make of the feed-forward error correction? In reading it I'm reminded of the Quad current dumping topology. I never seriously looked at what Quad did but what my understanding was is that it had a small amp to handle the zero crossover region and higher power dumpers in what I sup...

Re: A Simple 10W Direct-Coupled Class-A Power Amplifier

I was reading about Benchmark's new power amp and found this statement: Low Gain – The AHB2 has a low gain setting that optimizes the gain structure of professional monitoring systems. Maximum rated output is reached at an input signal level of 22 dBu. This places the upstream equipment in an ideal ...

Re: ||MYWAY|| 50W Class-A with Direct heatsink mounted devic

Rail voltage is +/-32VDC and the Class-A quiescent current is 3.5A per rail
Ok, so it looks like Iq = Ipeak (50W, 8 Ohms).
And a 48VCT transformer looks to be a about right.

Thanks again for sharing this with us. I hope that you continue to pursue this and share your results.
