Re: Entropy

eek. clearly no FMEA done on that! I used to have a load of the cheap incandescent strings that are 500 lights for $10 from walmart. Bar the half day finding the dead bulbs and avoiding treading on them before they were up used to cover 4 of the apple trees in my garden. Never wanted to go more adva...

Re: Welcome to the Land of the Free and Sub $2 Gasoline

As I used to say when I lived in Chicago 'gas is the same price in US or UK, just you get a gallon, we only get a litre'. I think it was $1.20 ish most of the time I was filling up.

Re: Entropy

The instant gratification is only due to the ability of under 10s to get through several changes of clothes in a day (sometimes in an hour). With the big 3 off at uni I only have brood 2 to worry about but still have to run the machine 5 times or more on an average week. All my own fault of course. ...

Re: Entropy

There is one thing I am planning to replace that is repairable, which is the microwave (needs a bulb). This one the convection part (quartz) is covered in dust and grease and lets out clouds of smoke when you use it, but cannot be accessed to clean and the microwave part has days when it doesn't see...

Re: Entropy

I couldn't buy repair parts to fix my wall oven when it couldn't regulate temp... I didn't feel up to MacGuyvering it. JR I am to stubborn to be wise enough to not try and McGuyver things. The only regulation is the wife who tries to point out when things are easier to replace. I blame my mother an...

Re: Entropy

I've never replaced a machine as beyond economic repair. Have replaced one as it was just too slow for the growing family, but even that did 15 odd years. Fixed the tumble dryer as well a few years back, that was a scary fault. Poor crimp on the connector to the heating element. I am suprised it did...

Re: Entropy

Washing machine stopped mid cycle on saturday. Now with 2 under 4s currently in the house it gets used a lot so this was not a good day for it to go. I'd noticed the door lock misbehaving a bit recently so took it apart to have a look . I honestly had not realised how basic the whole door interlock ...

Re: Digital EQ

I will monitor as I move forwards, but TBH will be sticking an SSD in this machine as soon as possible. The HDD in this is a slow laptop one and didn't work well on windows in its old life. But I will monitor that. As this will be for a very few use cases I wasn't too worried about version and grabb...

Re: Digital EQ

I'm using ubuntu studio 18.10 mainly because that comes with calf studio pre-installed and should just work (for a given value of just).

Re: Digital EQ

well got ubuntu loaded on an old laptop, so phase 1 done. Been looking at controllers and the novation launch control XL looks like it will fit the bill. You can program the pots for a limited range, which is what I need to ensure I don't put stupid levels of gain in. The stereo tools plugin has a w...
