Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information

So in department of 'measure twice, cut once' to cover the range of MCs in use I need low/high gain settings approx 8dB apart to keep the flat output within a good range on one build. The Flat output will go into a Behringer DEQ with no input attenuator. I have gain control on the RIAA path so that ...

Re: Flat Balanced Input Moving Coil Phono Preamp Construction Information

There has been a discussion on this recently. Hans it seems lives not only in a low EMI area, but has his lab setup away from big transformers and gets a lack of 50Hz pic up that has people raising eyebrows. Makes not a blind bit of difference to listening to vinyl, but nice from a low noise measure...

Re: Low Noise Transistors: ZTX851 versus ZTX689B Noise Performance

My rbb of 5.5Ω may be low, my last guestimate was 8Ω. I've asked Hans at diyaudio to run his sim for the MC preamp adjusting the model's rbb until it got 2.7 dB noisier. He's done the sims and gets 5.3R. close enough for Rock and Roll. I have to say, for any sane* cartridge if we didn't have the ZT...

Re: Entropy

Not really. It may have had trouble locking in once before, but HDMI had not been used for a few weeks when I discovered it. If all HDMI inputs are gone its most likely that chip. I should try and stick a heat sink on as well as the failure mode is clearly thermal cycling. Touch wood its still holdi...

Re: Entropy

I should probably have a set so I'll never need them. (Sort of like the snow shovel I bought a few years back.) I have a friend with a landrover (I think you call it LD4 there, we just call it disovery). Every time something stops working, he buys a spare and as soon as he does it starts working ag...

Re: Entropy

Dallas is colder than UK!

When I read '5 minutes away' I assumed that meant the spare was in the barn. Takes a Texan at least 10 to get off their own property :D

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information

Wife is away for half term. But have put down the soldering iron whilst I measure twice and cut once on the build I am doing for a friend. Next step is working out positionng of the 26 relays needed!

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information

OK easy bit is all done. Now working on the customisations for one of the sets and trying to guestimate the gains required. The bit I'm having trouble on is relative levels between Flat and RIAA outputs. I want to think they should be same at around -23dBFS for a 0dB reference cut, but keep thinking...

Re: Entropy

Generally older EFI cars run open loop until warm, then the 02 sensors kick. I would expect a lamdba sensor issue to be the other way round and runs fine until hot then goes squirrelly.

Re: The Internet Turns 50 Today

50 years since the first Arpanet message 'LO', but stretching it a bit to say the 'internet' turns 50 as TCP/IP wasn't going to come along for another 6 years? And of course packet switching had been demonstrated elsewhere by this time.
