Re: Entropy

JR - Congrats on your cleaned MAF sensor. Hold on to your old car - new ones from the last couple of years are like nanny's. Normally I would have replaced this car by now, but think i will just ride this car into the sunset... (Blue book is still something like $13k, not bad for a 22YO car). Had t...

Re: Entropy

Today my replacement K&N air filter arrived so I could finish my air intake maintenance. I removed the MAF sensor housing and gave it a proper douche with spray cleaner out on the driveway... The spray can said to give it 10-12 shots and that seemed excessive (even though it was my neighbor's can). ...

Re: MM flat preamp … i need a set of fresh ears

Objectively I would want the click to be reproduced with the fastest transient response, the better to let it come and go, and de-click it. Program material wants objectively flat frequency response and low distortion.

But I don't try to play my old records these days so disregard my opinions.

Re: Audio RMS versus Peak

Have you considered using the VCAs in a balanced configuration to double the headroom? What are the available supply voltages? Are HV op amps an option? I am not sure what exactly a balanced VCA configuration is. Using two (one for positive zig, and another for negative zag) will sum to +6dB more s...

Re: Audio RMS versus Peak

In line level gear what is considered signal peak value of a given signal rms value ? The answer for a Sine signal is Vpeak /Vrms = √2; What about audio signals rms values ? In line level gear, when considering headroom and clipping, what is the ratio used by pro designers? There is only a simple r...

Re: Entropy

I didn't see any obvious contamination on the hot wire (looks like a coiled light bulb) element. The two shots of spray clean made an obvious difference to engine behavior, so I will give it another more rigorous douche next week, when my replacement air filter arrives, and I remove the whole MAF as...

Re: Entropy

I feel bad about taking credit for a few recent repairs but that's how it goes sometimes. #1- The power cord for my decades old radar detector stopped locking in the mating connector. This looked just like a phone connector and guess what? a phone cord works.... That suggests to me good engineering ...

Re: MM flat preamp … i need a set of fresh ears

I have a hard time getting excited about vinyl these days but always have opinions. Is it possible to perform null tests between pairs of files? It will be impossible to time sync them together perfectly so you will probably get some flanging sound, as they slide in and out of deep null, but t...
