In our latest product we use 50 x 12v relays. To keep the power draw down I use a LM2596 dc/dc switch regulator turned down to +10v.
A LM7812 would have add 5VA extra power draw.

Looks like the LM3914N-1 has reached it's end of life as well.
The PLCC20 version is more expensive :(

Still have the light bulb test circuit on my bench that was descibed in the CS800 manual. Think I put it together back in 1978.

Zener voltage is 2.7v
The detector is a part of this compressors character so I think I will stay as close as possible.
The original designs combines the compressor and limiter CV's with parallelled transistors.
