Re: Entropy

I occasionally find bad crimps on FastOn-type terminals that form high resistance connections. You probably would have seen that though. That wiring all looks OK, the old cooker worked fine when it worked. I just cooked my dinner meals with it days ago. Main problem flaky switch action. With the di...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ranch

LED lamps. You can roll your own. LED module + constant current power supply + heatsink. Modules from 10W to 100W and compatible CCS are available at very low prices direct from China. Heatsink, I am pretty sure you have or can get from junk. Have fun designing a decent assembly with good protectio...

before IMG_20200215_100230346.jpg new plan IMG_20200215_141038877.jpg The igloo made more sense for my earlier rube-goldberg peltier cooking attempts. The commercial slow cooker is actually well insulated on the sides and bottom, while the top not so well... The top lip of the metal cooking vessel t...

Re: Entropy

New cooker is already at work cooking 3 weeks worth of my lunch casserole(?). Time to investigate my old balky slow cooker. It was harder to get apart than expected, but I was able to get it apart. I didn't see any obvious fault revealing the known problems; (1) balky switching, (2) occasional diffi...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ranch

IMG_20200213_191302037.jpg Disregard the clutter and old shopping bags on the floor. I just installed a nice 24" LED light bar in the ceiling over my sink. Less than $10 at wallyworld. This will surely motivate me to clean my sink better/more often. There was a short curtain above the sink, now in ...

Re: Entropy

As I crest the hill (of life) and pick up speed on the downhill side I am slowly abandoning my parsimonious ways. Within the last year I replaced my washing machine before the old one failed. I now have a new sump pump on order but mainly as a prudent path to upgrade a 25 YO or more sump pump ...

Re: home improvement turns into science fair projects?

I don't know if the switcher blob is galvanically-isolated or not. I doubt it. The audio "silent switcher" has a ground connection from USB input to bipolar output. Does the USB 5V outlet on the wall plate have a connection to safety ground? I don't know but it would be easy to check. UL woud proba...

Re: home improvement turns into science fair projects?

Traveling back in time in this thread.... We've started installing USB wall outlets here. The Levitons have two USB ports and two NEMA outlets. The USB is 15W. I would love to have a bunch of adapters that would take 5V USB from the outlets and give me switchable 6, 9 and 12V to replace conventiona...

Re: home improvement turns into science fair projects?

I think its Potterchitto Creek at 310 ft MSL about 1-1/2 miles due south. I'll take your word for that... https://proaudiodesignforum.com/images/pdf/MS_Hickory_335797_1966_24000_geo.pdf (Due to the size of the pdf it takes awhile to render at any zoom level.) Your water goes out onto the Hwy 80 dra...

Re: home improvement turns into science fair projects?

I didn't need a topo to figure that out... I know you know that but is the water coming from the north? It was a question... Sorry, water flow is from uphill (which is north) to downhill (south) of me... Major river a few miles east of me is Chunky river. Even though interstate 20 is elevated...
