Re: entropy continued?

Umm, I got it wrong. I replaced the IC sockets and nothing changed. A real head scratcher. It turned out to be a general power issue. My power arrangement is a little more complicated than most. I use an 8 pole Buckaneer 400 series connector for power. I run separate wires for Audio Common and Chass...

Re: entropy continued?

Today one of the four opamps wasn't happy even with the Stabilant 22. I think I'm just going to replace the socket. This board must have been exposed to some debris. Maybe dust from a cutoff wheel? The other three boards aren't doing this. I should just replace all four sockets for good measure.

How are you bending the IC leads before insertion?

I usually give the IC a small squeeze. Then I fit the IC pins in one side of the socket and bend the other side until it fits in the socket.

Is there a better way?

Re: entropy continued?

I'm working on getting the second T-Filter EQ going. Everything was going smooth until I loaded the first filter boards with IC's. When I powered it up the positive going half of the sine wave was coming up flat topped. After about five seconds the top half of the waveform would come up and look nor...

Re: MEP-250 Bridged-T equalizer

Some notes on a real Sontec. They use polystyrene caps for the smaller value in the tuning circuit. I guessed right on that. This one used Evox (Kemet) polypropylene film caps for the larger value. This one had a noise floor of -82dBu unweighted. The one I built has a noise floor of -86dBu. The one ...

Re: Welcome to the Test, Measurement and Repair Forum

It is very picky about power. Since you are in CA it should be no problem to drop a electrode in around San Pedro and another one in around Malibu and get some power out of the salt water.

Re: MEP-250 Bridged-T equalizer

Suddenly I remember why I am using a PC for parametric duties. I'd never find time to build that. It took about 100 hours to build. The second unit I expect to come in at half that or less. These EQ’s are for a console that will be used daily to generate billing. I certainly wouldn’t do it just for...

Re: MEP-250 Bridged-T equalizer

@ Paul. Wow you've been very busy. Where did you find the braided multi-core shielded cable for the EQ switches? It's braided shield that I put over hook up wire, then covered with clear heat shrink. Very time consuming. Each switch function needs a different wiring arrangement. The gain pots are c...

Re: MEP-250 Bridged-T equalizer

Here is the four channel T-filter EQ I made based on the Igor PCB’s. I’m pretty far along on making the second unit. I cut, drilled and tapped the mounting rails for the Sontec PSU and the T-filter EQ at the same time. http://www.saltmastering.com/Console/TFEQ/TFEQA-10.JPG http://www.saltmastering.c...
